Black Lives Matter. The recent killings of Black people are abhorrent. May we all have the courage of Darnella Frazier, who had the composure and presence of mind to record George Floyd’s killing.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is committed to addressing disparities that disproportionately affect Black communities. At this pivotal moment in our country’s history, I am immersed in reviewing - both personally and on the part of NCMNS – our unconscious bias and implicit racism. Going forward, we will do more with individuals, families and communities across the state to understand how we can provide greater access to our services. We also will diversify our governance and improve opportunities for employment.

To ensure these goals have traction, we are planning partnerships with community-based organizations and knowledge holders to bring about sustainable change. We will listen and - most of all – we will act.

We encourage your participation at this important time. Please use our traditional communication channels while we explore others that may be more effective. Send your ideas, thoughts, and questions - Contact us.
