‘Paintings Done Outside’ by Emily Weinstein opens at Nature Art Gallery March 2

RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences’ Nature Art Gallery presents “Paintings Done Outside,” artwork by Emily Eve Weinstein. The show runs March 1–31, with a Gallery reception Saturday, March 2, 2–4 p.m. All exhibited art is for sale.
Weinstein, a Triangle-area resident since 1982, formally studied art at Academie Charpentier in Paris, then West Surrey College of Art in England, followed by Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts. Her work experiences include four artist-in-residencies (Oregon, Nevada, New York and North Carolina), as well as teaching portraiture, landscape painting, mixed media, mural painting and faux finishes. She currently teaches outdoor or “plein air” painting at Carrboro Art Center.
“I began to paint under the full moon as a way to free up the tight rendering that was often required in my work creating portraits and murals,” Weinstein says. “Each monthly foray into the great moonlit outdoors led to such fascinating adventures that the moon painting series continues indefinitely.”
Weinstein also notes that she is hooked on oil paint. “I enjoy the layering and texturing I can achieve. My most recent paintings have been studies in chaos and making complex studies of complicated outdoor subject matter. After a recent trip to California, missing seeing the open Western skies, I began painting massive amounts of sky above our native trees.”
The Nature Art Gallery is located inside the Museum Store. Hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 4:45 p.m. Admission to the Gallery is free. All exhibited art is for sale.
