Join us to learn more about how birding can be both a hobby and a career. During this program, we will meet Murry Burgess and Lauren Pharr!

Murry Burgess is an Associate Wildlife Biologist®, Urban Ecologist, and ornithologist who studies the effects of sensory pollutants on songbird health and development. Lauren D. Pharr is an avian ecologist who studies the impacts of climate change on avian behavioral responses. She is currently a PhD student at North Carolina State University pursuing her degree in fisheries, wildlife, and conservation biology & researching brood reduction in the federally endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. Together, the two founded Field Inclusive (FI), a new nonprofit which seeks to amplify and support marginalized and historically excluded individuals who professionally work outdoors in any natural resources field. With support from individual donors and corporate sponsors, FI seeks to offer tangible and actionable improvements in field research issues related to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI). In line with the goals of this organization, FI also seeks to provide research scholarships and other financial assistance for marginalized and historically excluded field researchers. Join us to learn more about Field Inclusive and the path these co-founders took to get here!
