Note: The application deadline for the upcoming 2021-22 school year has passed. Please check back in January 2022 when applications open for the upcoming school year. Forms are due in May 2022. The links to both the student form and teacher recommendation form will be posted at the bottom of this page when applications open.

Please note that for the 2020-21 school year, the Teen Science Café and Café Coordinator programs will take place virtually and in person as health and safety guidelines allow.

Cafe Coordinator/Teen Science Cafe staff will follow current state and federal health guidelines when planning programming; until teen volunteers can safely be welcomed back onsite and work in a small group setting, program meetings and workdays will be held virtually.

Grades 9–12 (in 2020-2021 school year)

The Café Coordinators are the planners and hosts of the Museum’s Teen Science Cafés: monthly presentations featuring cutting-edge science research and careers in STEM. Teen Science Cafés are free Museum programs for teens, hosted by teens, and the Café Coordinators are responsible for making them happen!

Café Coordinators will build science literacy, public speaking and leadership skills by working directly with guest scientists to plan and implement all parts of the Café programs. These students select Café topics, manage social media and marketing efforts, film the Café presentations from the media booth, create engaging activities, welcome participants and emcee Café events up on stage.

Never been to a Teen Science Café? That’s ok! Check out video recordings of past Cafés on our Livestream Video Archive to see what they’re all about.

This application-based program is competitive, and we receive more applications than we can accept. If selected for the program, you will be expected to uphold the required volunteer time commitment described above and attend all meetings and Cafés. Failure to do so may result in removal from the program.
