UPDATE: Parking is back to normal in the area of the Museum due to the inaugural events being moved indoors to Memorial Auditorium at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. The planned inaugural parade has been canceled.

Due to the governor’s inaugural events, several state parking facilities near the Museum will be closed starting as early as tonight, Wednesday, January 4, and continuing until after the events conclude this Saturday, January 7. Visitors who park in these facilities during this time risk being towed and/or being unable to exit.

There will also be a number of street closures associated with the Inauguration Parade this Saturday. Please see godowntownraleigh.com for details.

The above-ground parking lot between Blount and Wilmington Streets (with entrances on Jones and Edenton Streets), Lot 18, will be closed starting January 4 at 6pm, and continuing until after the inaugural events conclude on Saturday.

The Green Square lot at the corner of Edenton & McDowell Streets and Lot 20 (bordered by Blount, Jones, Person & Edenton Streets) will close at 6pm on Friday, January 6 and remain closed until after the inaugural events conclude on Saturday.

Five alternative parking facilities near the Museum have been marked on the PARKING ALERT MAP:

  • State-owned parking deck #2 with an entrance available ONLY on McDowell Street this weekend.
  • Municipal Building Parking Deck at the corner of Morgan and McDowell Streets.
  • Alexander Square Parking Deck at 120 South Wilmington Street.
  • Wilmington Station Deck at 115 South Wilmington Street.
  • Moore Square Parking Deck at 233 South Wilmington Street.

Hourly and daily maximum parking rates vary depending on the lot.

Limited on-street parking may be available near the Museum, keeping in mind the street closures.
