NCMNS and UNC’s Institute for the Environment continue youth climate program partnership after $2.3 million NSF award

The Center for Public Engagement with Science in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Institute for the Environment received the award for a new program focused on cultivating resilience to climate impacts, such as flooding and extreme heat, by educating and equipping young scientists. Over five years, the YES Resilience: SEE Solutions program team will work primarily with Latino and Indigenous youth, guiding their exploration of local climate issues and facilitating dialogue about potential solutions as well as youth-led resilience projects.
“Youth are hearing about the climate crisis and the impacts of climate change every day,” says Lynn Cross, Head of Youth Programs for the Museum. “We want them to feel optimistic about the future, have a voice in how they are impacted and offer suggestions for solutions. Addressing the realities of climate change will take a multi-generational approach and we need engaged teens to share their important perspective.”
