Dino Plate Update
September 04, 2025

It’s official! The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles has approved our application for a specialty license plate featuring the toothy skeleton of Acrocanthosaurus, one of the Museum’s signature dinosaur specimens and better known as the “Terror of the South.”
The DMV has processed all applications from the initial launch and plates are now in production.
Standard plates will be mailed at the end of September.
Personalized plates will be mailed at the end of October.
Applications will reopen through the DMV’s online system in early October.
With each $30 specialty plate purchase, $20 goes directly to the Friends of the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, the non-profit organization that helps fund the Meum’s mission by supporting research, exhibits, educational programs and conservation efforts. Personalized plates are available for an additional fee.
