Arianna Soldati sits atop Mount St. Helens
Volcanic eruptions punctuate news and spice up disaster movies. They are, therefore, fairly common sights even for those of us who have never witnessed one in person. How does their depiction shape our understanding of the actual dynamics of volcanic events? What can we learn, and what should we be asking when watching eruption footage? We will explore the answer to these questions and take a close look at some recent case studies of volcanic depiction in the media.
