SUMMARY:Volcanoes in the Media: From Hollywood to CNN
DESCRIPTION:Arianna Soldati sits atop Mount St. Helens \nVolcanic eruptions punctuate news and spice up disaster movies. They are\, therefore\, fairly common sights even for those of us who have never witnessed one in person. How does their depiction shape our understanding of the actual dynamics of volcanic events? What can we learn\, and what should we be asking when watching eruption footage? We will explore the answer to these questions and take a close look at some recent case studies of volcanic depiction in the media. \nAbout Our Guest\nArianna Soldati\, PhD\, is an assistant professor of volcanology at NCSU. Always fascinated by volcanoes since an early age\, she turned her passion into a profession over the years studying and working all over the world\, including France\, the UK and Germany. \nThis presentation will now be VIRTUAL ONLY\, and will be broadcast online at the NCMNS YouTube channel. \nJoin the program on YouTube!
