Roar down the road with a new dinosaur license plate

March 19, 2025

Have a car or truck? Love dinosaurs? Soon fans of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will be able to display their support on their vehicles. The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles has an application pending for a specialty license plate featuring the toothy skeleton of Acrocanthosaurus, one of the museum’s signature dinosaur specimens and better known as the “Terror of the South.” The plate will be printed once 500 orders are received.

With each $30 specialty plate purchase, $20 goes directly to the Friends of the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, the non-profit organization that helps fund the museum’s mission by supporting research, exhibits, educational programs and conservation efforts. Personalized plates are available for an additional fee.

Plates can be ordered by downloading the form and following the instructions online. You may also pick up a paper application and instructions onsite at the museum Box Office, front desk, or museum stores.
