NC Museum’s ‘Dueling Dinosaurs’ provides Sensory Friendly Mornings

June 02, 2025

Mom, dad and young child check out a model fossil jacket.

Explore the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences’ Dueling Dinosaurs exhibit with reduced noise effects and smaller crowds. Sensory Friendly mornings are free and occur the second Sunday of the month, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Dueling Dinosaurs fossil includes a pair of exquisitely preserved 67-million-year-old dinosaurs — a tyrannosaur and a Triceratops — found buried together in the Hell Creek Formation of Montana. The Dueling Dinosaurs experience includes two exhibit zones immersing visitors in the Age of Dinosaurs as well as highlighting the tools and techniques used by today’s paleontologists. At its core, the SECU DinoLab hosts a team of outstanding paleontologists who will be studying these specimens and others for years to come.

Please note that this is a self-guided tour of the exhibit space (not led by a Museum educator), though you can interact with paleontology team members in the SECU DinoLab!

We recommend you bring any noise-reducing headphones and fidgets you may need, but a limited number of Sensory Friendly Bags are available for checkout at the front desk, and a limited number of noise-reducing headphones are available to borrow at the exhibit.

Free Registration is not necessary but is encouraged; if you register, we’ll send reminder e-mails and resources about the exhibit so you can know before you go!

Available dates are June 8, July 13, Aug. 10, Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9, Dec. 14.
