Join us in the SECU Daily Planet Theater for a presentation with Fulbright Visiting Scholar, Dr. Riffat Naseem Malik.

This presentation will explore various toxins found in food, ranging from natural substances to contaminants and processing by-products. It will discuss the health risks associated with these toxins, including both short-term and long-term effects. Additionally, Dr. Malik will explain how food safety regulations help manage these risks and provide practical advice on reducing exposure through proper food handling, cooking, and storage. The goal of the presentation is to empower individuals to make informed decisions about the food they consume.

Our Guest Speaker

Dr. Riffat Naseem Malik is a Professor, founder, and currently chairperson in the Department of Environmental Sciences, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan. She received her PhD from the University of Reading, UK in 2003 and postdoctoral research fellowships from the University of Turku, Finland and Lancaster University, UK.

Dr. Malik is an expert on studying environmental contaminants in particular “Persistent Organic Pollutants” (POPs), their trends, fate, behavior, atmospheric transport and sources in aquatic and terrestrial resources of Pakistan; their effects, impacts on ecological systems and risks associated to human health and wildlife.

This presentation is offered by the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in conjunction with NC State University and the Fulbright Outreach Lecturing Fund.
