Loki, an orphaned tiger, was hand-reared. Photos: Dr. Jenny Campbell

Loki was an orphaned tiger that Dr. Jenny Campbell hand-reared when she was much younger. This experience set in motion a lifelong fascination with tigers that took her places she did not expect. Tigers are among the most iconic, most “popular” animals in the world, one of the first we teach our children about, an apex predator we love perhaps too much. Join us for a tiger story!

Tonight’s Expert

Dr. Jenny Campbell is a Teaching Professor and Director of the Undergraduate Zoology Program at NC State University (NCSU).  Prior to coming to NC State, she worked in zoos and conducted wildlife conservation research throughout the U.S. and internationally. Her main research and teaching interest is the study of the human-animal relationship, and she works with students to provide them with meaningful research and educational experiences in this field. She hopes to prepare students for the 21st century and empower them to understand the challenges their non-human neighbors — both wild and domesticated — face.

Grab a bite from the Daily Planet Cafe and join host Chris Smith and special guests for our monthly Science Cafe. On the third Thursday of every month at 7pm, gather with other curious minds at this after-hours event for an informal presentation and conversation about current science topics with guest experts. The Daily Planet Cafe is open 5–8pm with a full menu during the Science Cafe.
