Purple Martin Banding Demonstration

  • Saturday, June 22, 2019
  • 9:30am - 11:30am

We’re banding our baby Purple Martins, and you’re invited to come watch! Museum ornithologists will weigh, measure, and band the Purple Martin chicks in the Prairie Ridge colony as you watch. Learn about how banding works, why we band birds, and get to see some baby Purple Martins up close!

Please come dressed for the weather and ready to stand in the sun. Closed-toed shoes, sunscreen, and a hat are all strongly recommended. Bring a water bottle! When you arrive, walk down the dirt road to the Purple Martin nest area, between the Nature Neighborhood Garden and the Outdoor Classroom. We’ll get started about 9:30am.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
