This month, we’ll learn more about Astronomy with Rose D. Ferreira!
REGISTER NOW! (Virtual Only)
Rose D. Ferreira is an Astronomer, Science Communicator and activist, born and raised on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, in the Dominican Republic. After breaking from poverty and fighting for rights to her education and bodily autonomy, she emigrated to the US as a teenager. Here, she lived on the streets of New York City, overcame homelessness, and taught herself English at the age of 17, in order to work and put herself through college.
Rose engages in STEM outreach both in English and Spanish and has been featured by NASA, Astronomia Magazine, Symmetry Magazine, SyFyWire, Quartz and Gizmodo, and has given live talks for WHOI, Caveat NYC, “Exploring by the Seat of your Pants,” and “Ask A Spaceman” live by Science Friday.
When she’s not chasing space or encouraging others to look up, she likes to focus her attention on education access and equity, as well as activism for survivors of abuse and homelessness. These are all circumstances she overcame. She hopes to inspire others who come from difficult backgrounds like her own, to challenge the conventional ideas of what it means to be successful in society. Check out her website here.
Professional Previews will take place on Zoom. We recommend this program for middle school and up, but all ages are welcome.
