Dr. Brittany Danielle Hunt is a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and an Assistant Professor of Education at Virginia Tech. She is a graduate of Duke University, UNC Chapel Hill, and UNC Charlotte. She is the author of the children’s book Whoz Ya People? and the co-host of the podcast The Red Justice Project, both of which center Indigenous stories. Her research centers on the experiences of Indigenous peoples in the education system. Twitter: @audaciouslyndn

Dr. Hunt’s research focuses on the ways that Indigenous knowledge is problematized or erased in the classroom. There have been numerous instances of Indigenous knowledge being dismissed or discredited in the field of science. Native Americans have often been reduced to stereotypes in seen media — if they are even seen at all. Join us to learn more about how Dr. Hunt advocates for, celebrates, and centers Indigeneity in her work.

Professional Previews will take place on Zoom. Programs are recorded and registrants can access previous topics.

We recommend this program for middle school and up, but all ages are welcome. Parents and teachers are invited to participate with their children or students.
