Fireflies at Prairie Ridge Ecostation

Join us for the second annual PrairieFest as we celebrate National Prairie Day!

The Museum is the proud steward of a reconstructed Piedmont prairie in west Raleigh, and today’s the day to celebrate it! We’re excited to host you for an evening of fun activities that let you explore the ways humans and animals have coexisted with prairies, from learning how to weave grasses to seeing what lives in and uses these habitats. Bring a picnic to enjoy as you listen to the music, or join us just for the amazing activities! As the evening comes to a close, we’ll feature a firefly program beginning at 8:30pm, so folks can end the evening watching these captivating beetles flicker over the prairie.

Music provided by local bluegrass band Stump. Popsicles available for sale by Raleigh Popsicle Company.

This is a family-friendly event. Please dress for the weather (sun hat, closed-toed shoes and a full water bottle are recommended) and be prepared to take a short walk. This is a free event; donations always welcome.
