Photographing Fish

  • Saturday, October 12, 2024
  • 1:00pm - 2:30pm

Photographing fish for fun, identification, or citizen science projects can be challenging. Join us at Prairie Ridge to learn how the experts photograph fish in this interactive workshop with the authors of the new field guide A Guide to North Carolina’s Freshwater Fishes! We’ll begin with an introduction to fish anatomy and biology, cover the approaches that work for shooting photos of fish with anything from cell phones to expert level camera gear, and then give you a chance to practice on some real fish with whatever gear you have. Come ready with questions and don’t forget to bring whatever camera you like best!

We welcome ages 12+ to this program, but require pre-registration for all attendees.  Register here.

Please come dressed for the weather as you’ll be in a covered, outdoor space throughout.

This program is a part of the North Carolina Fish Frenzy, a citizen science event by the Science Across NC collaborative (Prairie Ridge is a member!). Help us document fish at Prairie Ridge and beyond by photographing any wild fish statewide October 5-20, then submit your photos to iNaturalist!
