North Carolina’s sandy, ocean-facing beaches are the northern limit for nesting for several sea turtle species in the NW Atlantic, including loggerheads, green turtles, Kemp’s ridleys, and leatherbacks. Dr. Matthew Godfrey, sea turtle biologist with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, will discuss how long-term, intensive monitoring by volunteers and cooperators is providing insights into trends and behavior of females nesting in NC, including nest site selection and individual longevity.
