Embrace your inner archeologist at our August 15th installment of Museum Movie Night.  After saving him from certain death, English librarian Evelyn Carnahan gains the help of Rick O’Connell to uncover the secrets of the ancient city of Hamunaptra. What Evelyn, her brother Jonathan and Rick are unaware of is that another group of explorers are interested in the same dig. Unfortunately for everyone, this group ends up unleashing a curse which been laid on the dead High Priest Imhotep. Now ‘The Mummy’ is awake and it’s going to take a lot more than guns to send him back to where he came from. In addition to science activities and stations before the movie, we’ll host an expert and movie trivia (with prizes) following the screening. Don’t miss it!

This movie is rated PG-13.

The Mummy- 1999 (PG-13)


The Mummy Trailer – Directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah,  Arnold Vosloo, and Kevin J. O’Connor. Dashing legionnaire Rick O’Connell and Beni, his weasel of a companion, stumble upon the hidden ruins of Hamunaptra while in the midst of a battle in 1923, 3,000 years after Imhotep has suffered a fate worse than death; his body will remain undead for all eternity as a punishment for a forbidden love.

Caroline Rocheleau obtained her PhD in Egyptology and Nubiology from the University of Toronto, Canada, focusing on the material culture of ancient Egypt and Sudan. She has excavated at the Royal City of Meroë, Dangeil and Sedeinga, all archaeological sites located in Sudan. She currently serves as Director of Research and Curator of Ancient Collections at the North Carolina Museum of Art, overseeing the archaeological collections of the ancient Mediterranean and ancient Americas.  Her publications include Amun Temples in Nubia: A Typological Study of New Kingdom, Napatan, and Meroitic TemplesAncient Egyptian Art (the catalogue of the NCMA’s Egyptian collection);  The Bacchus Conservation Project; and the forthcoming catalogue of the ancient Greek, Italian, and Roman collection.
