Lifelong Hike: Ridges Mountain

  • Wednesday, February 25, 2026
  • 9:00am - 4:00pm
  • In the Field

Ridges Mountain Nature Preserve, located in the Uwharrie Mountain Range just west of Asheboro, is a unique natural area managed by the NC Zoo. John Lawson wrote about his visits to this area during his journey exploring North and South Carolina over 300 years ago. We will explore that history and the natural history of this interesting mountain. Our visit will include interesting rock formations and upland pool depressions crucial to winter-breeding amphibians.
