Lifelong Adventure: Winter Birds

  • 10:00am Friday, December 13, 2024 - 6:00pm Sunday, December 15, 2024

Lake Mattamuskeet and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuges host one of the largest concentrations of winter waterfowl along the East Coast. Learn how to identify waterfowl, raptors and other bird species. Short hikes and easy viewing from the Museum bus make this an ideal trip for both novice and seasoned birders. Birders flock from all over to see the winter waterfowl spectacle in these coastal refuges. We will hike in a remnant virgin forest in Pettigrew State Park and visit historic Somerset Place on the edge of Phelps Lake.
