Lifelong Adventure: Topsail Island Sea Turtle

  • 1:00pm Monday, August 28, 2023 - 3:00pm Wednesday, August 30, 2023

Learn about sea turtles and possibly witness the hatching of sea turtles on Topsail Island.  Participants will spend evenings on the beach “nest sitting” — waiting for baby loggerhead sea turtles to leave their sandy nests.  Daytime hours can be spent swimming, beach combing or catching up on sleep.  We will also visit the Topsail Sea Turtle Hospital to learn about their work in caring for sick and injured sea turtles.

Participants are responsible for motel reservations and costs.  Lodging information will be given upon completion of registration.

Please note: You will be required to enter the following information for each registrant before you can complete your registration: emergency contact, physician contact and health information (allergies, conditions, medications relevant to this field experience). Take a moment to gather this information before beginning your registration.

Details

  • Fee: $130 per participant; $110.50 per member participant. (Fee covers travel from Raleigh and turtle hospital fees. Participant pays for lodging and meals.)
  • Requirements: Minimum age 12 (minors must be accompanied by a registered adult).
  • Cancellation Notice: Refunds only issued if the Museum cancels the trip, or if cancellation is made in one of the following ways at least two weeks prior to the trip date: Either in writing via email to Missy Chernick or through the Museum box office (919.707.9950). We cannot issue credits, rain checks, or transfers for these trips.

  • Activity Level: Easy, but may involve long walks on loose sand to nest site.
