Since 1987, educators from across North Carolina have been inspired by Museum-run trips to outstanding natural areas such as Belize, Ecuador and Yellowstone National Park. Their students can follow along and ask questions as the educators post daily blogs from the field, and educators return to their classes excited to share new science content and activity ideas informed by their experiences.

Landon Leggett, a sixth-grade social studies teacher at Riverside Middle School in Williamston, North Carolina, developed a special lesson plan for her students due to her participation in the Museum’s Yellowstone in Winter Institute.

What did her students think of the project? Leggett said in an interview on WITN, “It helps it stick in their brains a little bit better when they’re able to touch it and make it their own. They’re allowed to have a lot of creative freedom with what they do and they love it. They loved what they were doing. They had the best time.”
