Climate change is making the traditional aims of conservation impossible to achieve. There are also way too few people doing hands-on conservation to prevent large-scale extinctions, especially in less-developed countries. South African author and conservationist Adam Welz will talk about the impacts of climate change on wild species, how conservation is being plunged into crisis, and why we must urgently redefine and open-source conservation so millions of amateurs can actively fight extinction where they live.

Adam Welz is an independent author and conservationist based on the stunningly biodiverse Cape Peninsula of South Africa.

Throughout the month of April, the Lunchtime Discovery Series will recognize Earth Day. These live presentations will be held Wednesdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. and are hosted by the NC Museum of Natural Sciences Coordinator of Current Science Programs Chris Smith.

Brought to you by the NC DEQ Office of Environmental Education and Public Affairs and the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.
