Winter Tree Identification

  • Saturday, January 31, 2026
  • 10:00am - 11:00am
  • Prairie Ridge

Ever wanted to know how to identify a tree when there aren’t leaves on the branches? Join us for a casual walk around Prairie Ridge for ages 8+.  We will learn ways to identify common Piedmont trees using characteristics visible in the winter and how you can contribute tree observations to ongoing collaborative science projects. We will share our tree observations with Nature’s Notebook, which documents seasonal changes in species across the continent to better understand how these are changing. We will also be keeping an eye out for Beech trees with curious bark characteristics….

Come dressed for the weather and ready for a leisurely walk of up to a mile over natural trails. Bring a  water bottle.  Meet your leader at the entrance kiosk.
