Story of Place: Prairie Ridge Past, Present, and Future

  • Saturday, February 07, 2026
  • 1:00pm - 3:00pm
  • Prairie Ridge

What was Prairie Ridge before it was Prairie Ridge? Come learn about the history of the land that is now the Prairie Ridge Ecosystem, from its geologic past through the present in this program for adults. We will take pictures to document the current landscape of Prairie Ridge as part of the NASA project GLOBE Observer, an international effort to map land cover patterns around the globe and to track their changes. We will then spend some time in the classroom to write and reflect. How have people shared these stories over time? What is the story of a place that is important to you?

Meet in the Outdoor Classroom, a 3-5 minute walk down the gravel road from the parking lot. Bring a notebook and water, and dress for the weather. Expect to walk a quarter mile, with some time spent standing.
