Derick Lugo, Author, Adventurer, and Host of the Unlikely Stories Podcast
Join Derick Lugo, author of the memoir, “The Unlikely Thru-Hiker,” for his story of “a young Black man setting off from the big city with an extremely overweight pack and a willfully can-do attitude.” Derick, a Brooklyn-born, New York City urbanite who had never hiked, camped, or pitched a tent a day in his life, tells the story of leaving the comfort of New York City to tackle 2,200 miles of the Appalachian Trail.
Derick will share how his first adventure transformed his perspective on the outdoors, inspiring him to pursue many more journeys, including his recent thru-hikes of the Continental Divide Trail and the Long Trail in Vermont.
