Professional Interests

As Head of Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Jan Weems is champion of Museum programs that connect children, their parents and teachers with the natural world: Birthday Parties, Summer Camps, Curiosity Classes, the Discovery Room and Windows on the World Demonstration Theater. She is currently involved in nurturing the Museum’s early childhood spaces with coordinating roles in the NEC’s Discovery Room; Whiteville’s Discovery Forest and the Nature PlaySpaces at Prairie Ridge and Whiteville. She enjoys presenting at national and regional workshop and conferences for early childhood and science educators; encouraging a sense of wonder with real objects and experiences.

When not at the Museum, she can be found canoeing, hiking and looking under logs for all those delightful creatures that are found down under.
