Whales have been an important resource to North Carolina since humans first settled here, providing coastal communities with food, fuel and materials. The waters off North Carolina hold a surprising diversity of whales, from humpback and right whales in coastal waters to sperm, pilot, and beaked whales offshore. Join us to learn about the lives of these iconic animals, the threats they face and the work that is being done to conserve them. We will focus on some of the less familiar species that are found far from shore and are the subject of current study.<\/p>\n
