Ridges Mountain Nature Preserve, located in the Uwharrie Mountain Range just west of Asheboro, is a unique natural area managed by the NC Zoo.\u00a0 John Lawson wrote about his visits to this area during his journey exploring North and South Carolina over 300 years ago. We will explore that history and the natural history of this interesting mountain.\u00a0 Dr. Betsy Roznik, Associate Curator of Regional Conservation, NC Zoo, will join us to discuss current efforts to conserve this wonderful natural area.\u00a0 Our visit will include interesting rock formations and upland pool depressions crucial to winter-breeding amphibians.<\/p>\n
