There will be plenty of fun activities, scientists, and live animals.<\/p>\n<p>Explore the science behind natural weather phenomena like hurricanes, tornadoes and thunderstorms while learning about the game of hockey. Our theme is Hurricanes and Hockey, inspired by our sponsorship by the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team. We will have science tables and activities for everybody!<\/p>\n<p>This event is perfect for all ages and ability levels.<\/p>\n<p>Visiting public spaces, like a museum, can at times prove challenging to people with autism or a disability that creates a sensitivity to sensory input. Large crowds and loud noises can be barriers to some experiences. In keeping with the Museum\u2019s commitment to inclusion and accessibility, Sensory Friendly Afternoon aims to remove those barriers.<\/p>\n<p>Registration for the event is optional but highly encouraged due to limited capacity. As an extra incentive, those who register will receive a schedule of event activities and other preparatory materials such as social stories and sensory maps one week in advance.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"btn btn-primary btn-camp-register\" href=\"https:\/\/3947.blackbaudhosting.com\/3947\/Sensory-friendly-Afternoon-03Apr2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Register<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>ACCESSIBILITY<\/h3>\n<p>This event will allow visitors to experience science in a peaceful and private environment. Our event will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Modifications to sound and lighting<\/li>\n<li>Noise-canceling headsets<\/li>\n<li>Access to quiet area<\/li>\n<li>Sensory fidget items<\/li>\n<li>Assistive listening devices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/naturalsciences.org\/visit\/accessibility\/index\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More information about accessibility at the Museum<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>VENUE<\/h3>\n<p>The event will take place inside the Nature Exploration Center (NEC). The first and second floors will be dedicated to exhibits and activities, while the third and fourth floors will be open to guest exploration.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"clearfix\" \/>\n<div class=\"row sponsor-logos\">\n<div class=\"col-md-6 col-sm-12\">\n<h3>MOVIE SCREENING<\/h3>\n<h3>The Mighty Ducks (1992)<\/h3>\n<p><strong>3:30pm<\/strong> in the WRAL 3D Theater (NEC, 1<sup>st<\/sup> floor)<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by our sponsor, the Carolina Hurricanes, we will be showing \u201cThe Mighty Ducks,\u201d a family-friendly comedy about the sport of hockey.
