Toth Professor of Marine Biology and in the Nicholas School for the Environment at Duke University. He is also the Director of the Duke Marine Lab. He studies the conservation biology of long-lived marine vertebrates, particularly marine mammals, seabirds and sea turtles. His work, and that of his students, documents the effects of human activities on populations of these species. Their work involves field work, experimentation and modeling. He is particularly interested in the development and application of new conservation tools.

Upcoming Lecture

Oct. 9: Where Did Whales Come From?
Dr. Mark Uhen, George Mason University

Hear what the latest research tells us about WHALES — from amazing new discoveries to ongoing conservation efforts to revealing prehistoric origins — with some of the nation’s top whale scientists in this four-part lecture series.
