Our Research Highlight Days feature these researchers and their fields of study. These events are held on the first floor of the Nature Research Center and feature themed tables and presentations.<\/p>\n<p>Herpetology Research Day will celebrate amphibians and reptiles by highlighting local research and conservation efforts on amphibians and reptiles. Exhibits will showcase live reptiles and amphibians native to North Carolina!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"x_elementToProof\">Exhibits and Partners<\/h2>\n<div><strong>Reptiles and Amphibians of North Carolina<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><em>NC Herpetological Society<\/em><\/div>\n<div>Visit with several species of reptiles and amphibians native to North Carolina! Test your snake identification knowledge with our &#8220;Find the Copperhead&#8221; game and learn how to become a member of the NC Herp Society, including our popular Youth Branch!<\/div>\n<p><\/br><\/p>\n<div><strong>Inviting Reptiles and Amphibians into Your Backyard<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><em>NC Partners in Amphibian &amp; Reptile Conservation<\/em><\/div>\n<div>Come and learn about NC native species, the importance of conservation, and how to attract reptiles and amphibians to your backyard! Live animals will be on-hand as well as several demonstration habitats.<\/div>\n<p><\/br><\/p>\n<div><strong>Herpetology Unit<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences&#8217; herpetology collection, started in the late 1800s by Museum co-founder C.S. Brimley, contains over 105,000 cataloged records (March 2021) that consist of approximately 300,000 specimens. Beane, Herpetology Collection Manager, North Carolina State Museum of Natural Sciences<\/em><br \/>\nThe Pinesnake, Pituophis melanoleucus, is a Threatened species in North Carolina.
