Dynowski.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>By NCMNS Director and CEO <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/naturalsciences.org\/about\/director\">Eric Dorfman<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I recently had the chance fulfill a long-time ambition, to have a chat with the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/richardlouv.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Richard Louv<\/a><\/strong> best-selling author of many books, including \u201cLast Child in the Woods\u201d and \u201cThe Nature Principle.\u201d Richard is a leader in thinking about nature deficit and our need to connect to the natural world, especially at a young age. We recently interviewed Richard for our our show \u201c<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thebiophiliapodcast.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Love Nature: the Biophilia Podcast<\/a><\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2026the Nature Principle suggests that, in an age of rapid environmental, economic, and social transformation, the future will below to the nature-smart \u2013 those individuals, families, businesses, and political leaders who develop a deeper understanding of nature, and who balance the virtual with the real.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2014\u201cThe Nature Principle\u201d 2012, p. 4.<\/p>\n<p>My co-host Dr. Dan Dombrowski and I talked to Richard about his latest book \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Our-Wild-Calling-Connecting-Transform\/dp\/1616205601\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Our Wild Calling<\/strong><\/a>\u201d (2019). In it asks people of many different backgrounds to talk about their specific relationship with animals. There is marine biologist Paul Dayton\u2019s close call with a giant octopus, New Zealand-based professor of ecology Charles Daugherty\u2019s special relationship with the ancient \u201cliving fossil\u201d reptile, the tuatara.
