These mustelids (related to weasels, otters, martens, etc.), some of the least-known in the New World, were found to be diurnal across their entire range.<\/p>\n<p>Cove has been camera trapping in Central America for over a decade and says, \u201cthese are one of the coolest animals to get on camera trap \u2013 they are omnivorous, which is not very common among the mustelids.\u201d They have been documented taking down <a href=\"https:\/\/carnivora.net\/tayra-an-opportunistic-predator-t8725.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prey as large as deer<\/a>. Cove says, \u201cThink tropical wolverines!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unlike some other mustelids, Tayras remained active during the day even in the presence of humans and other environmental factors.
