They call it Little China. It\u2019s where big trouble was waiting for Jack Burton \u2026 but don\u2019t worry, he can take it. Don\u2019t miss this deftly crafted concoction of mystical, action, adventure, comedy, kung fu, monster and ghost story. It\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/naturalsciences.org\/calendar\/event\/finally-friday-big-trouble-in-little-china\/\"><strong>Big Trouble in Little China<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d on the big screen at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBig Trouble in Little China\u201d (1986, PG-13) is directed by John Carpenter and stars Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall and Dennis Dun. The film tells the story of Jack Burton (Russell), a macho truck driver who agrees to go to the San Francisco airport and pick up his friend&#8217;s green-eyed fianc\u00e9e, freshly arrived from China. The\u00a0fianc\u00e9e\u00a0is kidnapped right in front Russell&#8217;s eyes by a Chinatown gang, which leads to an adventure into the\u00a0mysterious underworld beneath Chinatown. Once there, Burton \u2014 along with lawyer Gracie Law (Cattrall) and (sub)urban warrior Wang Chi (Dun) \u2014 face the ghost of a 3,000-year-old sorcerer, who needs to marry a woman with green eyes to release him from a centuries-old curse.<\/p>\n<p>Carpenter has helmed both classic horror films like\u00a0\u201cHalloween\u201d\u00a0(1978),\u00a0\u201cThe Fog\u201d\u00a0(1980) and\u00a0\u201cThe Thing\u201d\u00a0(1982), and noted sci-fi tales like\u00a0\u201cEscape from New York\u201d\u00a0(1981) and\u00a0\u201cStarman\u201d\u00a0(1984). After starring in the title role in Carpenter\u2019s TV movie \u201cElvis\u201d (1979), Russell appeared in a range of other Carpenter films in the 1980s, including \u201cEscape from New York\u201d and \u201cThe Thing.\u201d Fittingly, Russell landed a role in the\u00a0Elvis Presley\u00a0movie\u00a0\u201cIt Happened at the World&#8217;s Fair\u201d\u00a0(1963) when he was only 11 years old. Cattrall is certainly best known for her role as public relations executive Samantha Jones on the HBO sitcom\u00a0\u201cSex and the City\u201d\u00a0(1998).<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the movie, beginning at 5:30 p.m., check out movie-themed science stations.\u00a0Plus, a special guest will help separate the facts from the fiction following the screening.\u00a0Finally Friday movie nights feature a fun night of trivia and tongue-in-cheek commentary on popular science-themed movies, complemented by experts and hands-on science stations related to each night\u2019s theme. Dinner (such as sliders or tacos), beverages and popcorn will be available for purchase before the show. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; movies and presentations begin at 7 p.m. Admission: $5\/person.
