(RALEIGH, N.C.) \u2014 Once ordinary animals, four turtles and a rat mutate into intelligent creatures after coming into contact with a\u00a0toxic waste called Ooze. Now extraordinary, the walking, talking, pizza-loving creatures emerge from the New York sewer system they called home to fight off a gang of criminal ninjas. That\u2019s right. \u201cTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles<\/strong><\/a>\u201d (1990, PG) are lean, green and on the big screen at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, Friday, March 29 at 7 p.m. Cowabunga dude!<\/p>\n The turtles, named after Italian artists of the Renaissance, first appeared in comic books published by Mirage Studios in 1984. In this first movie, Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Donatello are voiced by Josh Pais, Brian Tochi, Robbie Rist and Corey Feldman. By far the most recognizable name of the group, Feldman is well known for real-people roles in \u201cStand by Me,\u201d \u201cThe Lost Boys,\u201d \u201cThe Goonies\u201d and \u201cGremlins.\u201d The wise rat, Splinter, who mentors and trains the turtles to become master ninja warriors, is voiced by Kevin Clash, the longtime voice of Elmo on Sesame Street who became the highest-paid Muppeteer ever thanks to the brilliant merchandising deal he struck with toy manufacturers. (The \u201cTickle Me Elmo\u201d doll was one of the largest-selling dolls in history.)<\/p>\n Prior to the movie, beginning at 5:30 p.m., check out movie-themed science stations.\u00a0Plus, a special guest will help separate the facts from the fiction following the screening.\u00a0Finally Friday movie nights feature the A\/V Geeks\u2019 Skip Elsheimer guiding a fun night of trivia and tongue-in-cheek commentary on popular science-themed movies as well as samples from his vault of 24,000+ short films. Movies are also complemented by experts and hands-on science stations related to each night\u2019s theme. Dinner (such as sliders or tacos), beverages and popcorn will be available for purchase before the show. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; movies and presentations begin at 7 p.m. Admission: $5\/person.
