Nature Art Gallery<\/a><\/strong> presents \u201cIcons of the Natural World,\u201d artwork by Lind Hollingsworth designed to inspire belief in the glory of nature and the will to preserve it. The show runs Aug. 31 through Sept. 30, with a Gallery reception Saturday, Sept. 1, 2\u20134 p.m. All exhibited art is for sale.<\/p>\nLind graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Architectural Interior Design and from Georgia Southern University with a master’s in Art Education. She currently teaches weekly youth drawing classes and acrylic painting classes at the Studio School in Savannah, Georgia, and occasional workshops at other locations. Lind\u2019s work has been exhibited at many Savannah venues, and is represented in Roots Up Gallery in Savannah and Atelier Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina. Her work is a part of the permanent collection of Memorial Health and St. Joseph\u2019s Hospital in Savannah and in private collections throughout the Southeast, Texas, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania and Canada.<\/p>\n
While teaching art history, Lind says she became interested in icons \u201cand the belief that visual objects can possess a spiritual power. While the icons of old glorified human beings of religious significance, this series of icons glorifies the small everyday creatures that have supporting roles in our ecosystem. Unlike the icons believed to protect the faithful, these objects of devotion need our protection. Honeybees, songbirds, frogs, turtles, monarchs and milkweed are a few to be included in this series.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the end, I hope the icons are objects of beauty that will inspire belief in the glory of nature and the will to preserve it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Nature Art Gallery is located inside the Museum Store. Hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 4:45 p.m. Admission to the Gallery is free. All exhibited art is for sale.
