A recent exploration in eastern North Carolina had a team of scientists spending months either combing sandy beaches or armpit-deep in creek mud, each effort leading to some great finds \u2014 including fossils from the age of dinosaurs \u2014 destined for inclusion in the Museum\u2019s collection.<\/p>\n
Museum paleontologist and team leader Dr. Christian Kammerer says that most of what they discovered was, perhaps not surprisingly, tied to marine life. Think of sharks\u2019 teeth and shells. But they collected some larger specimens as well. \u201cWe found several mosasaur teeth \u2014 those are the enormous sea lizards that lived at the end of the Cretaceous period.\u201d<\/p>\n
