The popular exhibit, often referred to as the \u201cButterfly Room,\u201d is modeled after a Central American forest and is filled with live animals. The two-toed sloth is a fan favorite, but the room also houses as many as 200 live butterflies (of course), a tropical milk snake, a tarantula and five ornate wood turtles. Look closely and you can even see Central American cichlid fish circling the room\u2019s 200-gallon pond.<\/p>\n<p>Plant lovers will also notice a real vanilla orchid, mahogany and allspice trees, strangler figs and more. Everything in the room is designed to teach visitors more about North Carolina\u2019s connection to the tropics through migration, shared species and products. \u201cI hope that people leave the Conservatory wanting to learn more about something they experienced in the room,\u201d says Andy Kauffman, Head of the Living Conservatory and Arthropod Zoo.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the Museum will be open seven days a week from Memorial Day (May 26) through Labor Day (Sept. 1), 10 a.m. \u2013 5 p.m. Living Conservatory hours are daily, 10 a.m. \u2013 4 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":110271,"menu_order":0,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/naturalsciences.org\/calendar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/110270"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/naturalsciences.org\/calendar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/naturalsciences.org\/calendar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/naturalsciences.org\/calendar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/6"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/naturalsciences.org\/calendar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/110270\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/naturalsciences.org\/calendar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/110271"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/naturalsciences.org\/calendar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=110270"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
