SUMMARY:Project RESTORE Educator Trek: Waterdog Warriors
DESCRIPTION:Date: Saturday\, December 13\, 2025. Please also mark your calendar for a rain date on Sunday\, December 14!\nTimes: 9am to 5pm \nJoin us in the search for one of North Carolina’s rarest salamanders\, the federally threatened Neuse River waterdog\, found only in the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico River Basins in North Carolina. Learn from expert biologists\, explore the natural history of the waterdog\, observe historically collected specimens and participate in field monitoring of the species. Discover how you can bring the excitement of field research of this rare species into your classroom. \nWith support from the US Fish and Wildlife Service\, Project RESTORE (Rescuing Endangered Species Through Outreach\, Restoration\, and Education) will feature a suite of educational opportunities for teachers and students to participate in restoration and monitoring of imperiled and endangered species in eastern North Carolina. \nLocations/Transportation: We will meet at the Museum in downtown Raleigh before heading to field sites in Johnston County. You can leave your vehicle parked in Raleigh and ride in Museum vans; we will return to Raleigh by 5pm. \nCredit: 8 contact hours toward CEUs or Criteria II/III for North Carolina’s Environmental Education Certification Program \nThis workshop is currently full. SUMMARY:Educator Trek: Bringing up Birders
DESCRIPTION:Whether you teach writing or science\, or work with elementary or high school students\, birds can be a powerful jumping off point for classroom lessons. Join us as we dive into the world of birds\, providing educators with the skills\, knowledge\, and resources needed to integrate birds into classroom lessons. Learn about basic bird biology\, build observation skills through the lens of bird watching\, and learn how to integrate avian citizen science into your classroom. Educators will leave this workshop with a new understanding of bird ecology\, as well as how to integrate birds into classroom learning. Participants will leave with lesson plans\, activities\, and additional resources to support classroom implementation. \nEligibility: This workshop is educators (includes teachers\, administrators\, pre-service or substitute teachers; non-formal educators; anyone working on their EE certification). \nCredit: 7 contact hours toward CEUs or Criteria II/III for North Carolina’s Environmental Education Certification Program  \nRegister online\nThe full workshop fee is due when you register and payment is via credit card.
