SUMMARY:Lunchtime Discovery: Look Closer: Discovering the Hidden World of Marine Invertebrates
DESCRIPTION:Join us in-person in the SECU Daily Planet Theater or watch the livestream on YouTube. \nThe North Carolina coast is home to small\, remarkable animals that are easy to overlook. From tracks in the sand and burrows in tidal flats to worms and sea slugs hidden along docks\, these invertebrates reveal how coastal ecosystems function. Jillian (AKA Marine Invert Girl) will share how exploring beaches\, marshes\, and sandbars has led her to study and appreciate the creatures many people pass by. Through field observations\, photos\, and simple techniques for spotting signs of life\, she invites participants to see familiar shorelines with fresh eyes and discover the diversity and ecological importance of the small animals that shape coastal environments. \nJillian Daly\, @MarineInvertGirl\, Marine Science Communicator \n\nThroughout the month of March\, the Lunchtime Discovery Series will recognize Women’s History Month and women’s contributions to science and conservation. These live virtual presentations will be held each Wednesday from noon to 1:00 p.m. and are hosted by the NC Museum of Natural Sciences Coordinator of Current Science Programs Chris Smith.
