Learn about bird behavior\, local visitors\, wildlife-friendly coffee\, and avian anatomy. \n\n\nSchedule\n\n\n7:30-10:30am\n\n\nBird Walk\nJoin John Gerwin and NCMNSW for a morning of bird watching at the Helms Nature Preserve in Whiteville. This beautiful preserve\, maintained by Wildlife Action of NC\, is located on private land and registration is required to receive the meeting location. Call Whiteville staff at 910-788-5100 to register. \n\n\n\n\n\n11:30am-12:30pm\n\n\nMeet Me at the Museum: John Gerwin presents “Birds of Eastern NC.”\nWhat birds might you see across the landscapes of Eastern NC? Learn what to expect in your backyard and ask your burning bird questions! \n\n\n\n\n\n2-3pm\n\n\nMeet Me at the Museum: “From Farms to Binoculars: Birds and People on Sustainable Coffee Farms in Nicaragua.”\nJohn will talk about his work with birds and farmers on sustainable coffee plantations. Learn how coffee is grown and harvested on sites where wildlife-friendly practices are integrated into the farming systems. \n\n\n\n\n\n3:30-4pm\n\n\nAvian Anatomy\nWhat makes a bird…a bird? Learn about bird anatomy through a dissection demonstration.

SUMMARY:Art of Science: Fall Leaves and Felted Banners
DESCRIPTION:The Art of Science series is for adults who like to blend science and art. Each program will include hands-on experience with a citizen science project paired with an associated art project. Participants will take home their project\, supplies\, and tools.\n\nIn this program\, we will explore documenting phenology (nature’s response to seasonal changes) as well as making a needle felted banner featuring fall leaves. Instructions for collecting and submitting data and making your banner will be provided during the program – no experience required! Your program fee covers the supplies needed to make one wool banner\, but you will likely have enough wool left to make a second on your own.\n\nTickets: $30\, $28 Museum Members\nRegister here
