SUMMARY:Lifelong Adventure: Blue Ridge at Wildacres
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the last days of summer at Wildacres Retreat Center\, on its own heavily wooded mountain peak just off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Little Switzerland. We will explore nearby trails for wildflowers\, mushrooms\, salamanders\, birds and other wildlife.  Evenings will be spent moon and star watching\, salamander hunting and moth trapping.  Great food\, comfortable accommodations and plenty of rocking chairs for enjoying great views of the mountains from the retreat center. \nPlease note: You will be required to enter the following information for each registrant before you can complete your registration: emergency contact\, physician contact and health information (allergies\, conditions\, medications relevant to this field experience). SUMMARY:Lunchtime Discovery: A Wildening: Early Reflections on a Residency at Dix Park
DESCRIPTION:Join landscape architect and artist Preston Montague for a look back at the busy first half of 2025 as the inaugural artist-in-residence at Dix Park in Raleigh\, North Carolina. The residency focuses on the development of landscape experiences spread across the park\, built in the service of memory—centering nostalgia\, land loss\, and environmental body memory. Developing these land art installations demanded horticultural research and innovation\, product design\, and developing a network of allies across city and state agencies\, as well as green industry professionals. We’ll look back together at both the art and the science of constructing grassland ecosystems at Dix Park that are rooted in the ancient and branch into the future. \nJoin us in the SECU Daily Planet Theater or watch the livestream on YouTube Live. \nPreston Montague\, ASLA\, PLA\, is a landscape architect and artist working to strengthen relationships between people and the natural world. His environmental design studio deploys art\, horticulture\, and landscape architecture in the service of building places that have meaning and ecological depth.
