No harm ever came from… reading a book.” \nEmbrace your inner archeologist at our August 15th installment of Museum Movie Night.  After saving him from certain death\, English librarian Evelyn Carnahan gains the help of Rick O’Connell to uncover the secrets of the ancient city of Hamunaptra. What Evelyn\, her brother Jonathan and Rick are unaware of is that another group of explorers are interested in the same dig. Unfortunately for everyone\, this group ends up unleashing a curse which been laid on the dead High Priest Imhotep. Now ‘The Mummy’ is awake and it’s going to take a lot more than guns to send him back to where he came from. In addition to science activities and stations before the movie\, we’ll host an expert and movie trivia (with prizes) following the screening. Don’t miss it! \nThis movie is rated PG-13. \nTHIS SHOW IS SOLD OUT. \nCheck out the upcoming movies and learn more about Museum Movie Night: Where Science meets the Cinema. \n\nThe Mummy- 1999 (PG-13)\n \n\n \n\n \n\nThe Mummy Trailer – Directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Brendan Fraser\, Rachel Weisz\, John Hannah\,  Arnold Vosloo\, and Kevin J. O’Connor. Dashing legionnaire Rick O’Connell and Beni\, his weasel of a companion\, stumble upon the hidden ruins of Hamunaptra while in the midst of a battle in 1923\, 3\,000 years after Imhotep has suffered a fate worse than death; his body will remain undead for all eternity as a punishment for a forbidden love. \nOUR SPEAKER\n\nCaroline Rocheleau obtained her PhD in Egyptology and Nubiology from the University of Toronto\, Canada\, focusing on the material culture of ancient Egypt and Sudan. She has excavated at the Royal City of Meroë\, Dangeil and Sedeinga\, all archaeological sites located in Sudan. She currently serves as Director of Research and Curator of Ancient Collections at the North Carolina Museum of Art\, overseeing the archaeological collections of the ancient Mediterranean and ancient Americas.  Her publications include Amun Temples in Nubia: A Typological Study of New Kingdom\, Napatan\, and Meroitic Temples; Ancient Egyptian Art (the catalogue of the NCMA’s Egyptian collection);  The Bacchus Conservation Project; and the forthcoming catalogue of the ancient Greek\, Italian\, and Roman collection. \n\nSCIENCE STATIONS (5:30–7PM)\nShifting Sands\nImhotep’s curse has raised the desert sands! We are going to use those sands to take a close look at resonance patterns with fun vibrating plates called Chladni Plates. What patterns will you uncover? \nScarab Facts & Fictions\nInvestigate interesting scarab specimens and realize how far-fetched it is to imagine scarab beetles crawling into your skin like they do in the film. The Mummy’s army of scarabs wouldn’t actually “bug” you nearly as much as he thinks they would. \nAsk a Librarian\nSLNC Government and Heritage Librarian\nExplore ancient mysteries at our library table! Test your skills with a library classification matching game and chat with a librarian to unlock answers to your most curious questions. \n\nMUSIC (5:30–7PM)\n\nSinger/songwriter William Woltz is a North Carolina native who covers a lot of musical territory. He grew up loving both the Beatles and Buck Owens while studying jazz and classical guitar. These days he plays a mix of bluesy originals and interesting cover tunes\, always striving for the right blend of old favorites and unexpected treasures. Come prepared to be entertained. \nFood and Drinks (5:30-7pm)\nAvailable for purchase will be an assortment of grab and go snacks and drinks\, including wraps\, chips\, and popcorn.
