SUMMARY:Carolina's Wild Butterflies
DESCRIPTION:Want to learn more about North Carolina’s butterflies – and how you can help document them for science? \nThis workshop will introduce you to North Carolina’s butterfly diversity\, teach you how to identify butterflies\, and show you how to become a community science butterfly monitor. This workshop begins in the Outdoor Classroom with an informational lecture\, followed by time outdoors searching for butterflies and practicing survey techniques.  Please bring close-focus binoculars if you have them! \nThis workshop is free and requires pre-registration. Register Now. \nThis program is for adults. Please bring a refillable bottle of water and dress for the weather – hat\, sunscreen and closed-toed shoes recommended.  We will meet in the Outdoor Classroom building\, which is a short walk down the gravel path from the parking lot.

SUMMARY:Nature PlaySpace Pop-Up (Whiteville)
DESCRIPTION:Nature PlaySpace Pop-Ups are free\, outdoor events guided by Museum staff in our fenced\, natural play area just outside the Museum. This program connects children to nature through nature crafting\, skill-building\, and play. Everyone is welcome at the Nature PlaySpace\, but Pop-Ups are designed especially for kids ages 4-8. Please dress for exploration! In the event of light rain or cold\, the Pop-Ups will still take place. In more adverse conditions\, please call the museum to inquire about the program’s status. Registration not required. \nWe ask that you notify the NCMNS-Whiteville staff ahead of time if you plan to bring groups of 10 or more to visit the Nature PlaySpace or other parts of the museum. SUMMARY:Fireflies Over the Prairie
DESCRIPTION:Want to see fireflies dancing over the grasses at Prairie Ridge?  Join us for an evening of fireflies!  You’ll learn about how and why fireflies light up and how you can help scientists learn more about fireflies in North Carolina and beyond.  Then we’ll watch the fireflies as they light up over the prairie! \nTickets: $5\, $3 Museum Members\nBuy Tickets\nYour registration fee covers the cost of a magnifier bug box that you may use to observe fireflies up close during the program. \nThis program is for ages 8+ and will be conducted entirely outdoors. Come dressed for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. Long pants and a long sleeved shirt are recommended.  Bring a filled water bottle and flashlight as it will be dark on your walk back to your car at the end of the program.  Meet your leaders in the Outdoor Classroom\, a short 3-5 minute walk down the gravel path from the parking lot.
