SUMMARY:The Key to Identification
DESCRIPTION:This program requires pre-registration. Please register at the link below. \nHow do you tell the difference between a tiger and a leopard? Or a dragonfly and a butterfly? Come learn about how scientists tell organisms apart using a tool called a dichotomous key – and how to make your own! \nThis program is for ages 8+ and will be conducted entirely outdoors.  Please dress for the weather\, wear closed toed shoes\, and bring water.  We will meet near the tall brick Chimney Swift tower in the center of the parking lot. Prairie Ridge will be closed to visitors during this program. The gate to the road will open at 9:50am and close at 10:05am. \nRegister

SUMMARY:Treefrog Survey
DESCRIPTION:Spring is here and so are frogs! Tree frogs are some of several species of frogs that call Prairie Ridge home. These frogs like to sleep in hollow cavities during the day\, and people can support tree frogs by installing PVC pipes for them to use as shelter. Prairie Ridge has frog pipes around the Ecostation\, and has been monitoring the frogs that use them for several years to better understand the tree frogs that live here. Come help us check these tubes and document frog biodiversity at Prairie Ridge in this program for ages 12+! We will learn about tree frogs and how to contribute to ongoing herpetology data collection efforts through HerpMapper. Come prepared to walk about a mile along dirt trails. \nRegistration is required to attend this program. \nRegister

SUMMARY:Teen Science Café: Monster Rockets
DESCRIPTION:This presentation compares the three biggest rockets ever built—the legendary Saturn V that took humans to the Moon\, NASA’s powerful Space Launch System (SLS)\, and SpaceX’s ambitious Starship. Learn how these giants stack up in size\, power\, design and mission goals. Also\, discover how each represents a different era of space exploration and our evolving plans to explore the Moon\, Mars and beyond. \n\nAbout the presenter\n\nAlan Rich is a retired scientist and engineer now working with NASA as a JPL Solar System Ambassador and occasional software tester and tech spin-off developer. He also represents the Los Angeles Astronomical Society. Alan enjoys taking deep topics such as astrophysics and rocket science and presenting them to any age group and education level in a way that’s entertaining and easy to understand. \n\n\nThis program is recommended for participants ages 11–17. Cafés will be held in person at the Daily Planet Cafe AND streamed live on YouTube. Registration is required for online participation.
