SUMMARY:Educator Trek: Community Action Projects for the Environment
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in supporting youth in civic action for the environment? Community Action Projects for the Environment (CAPE) is a new program that guides youth through an eight-step process to improve their community and environment. This is not your typical service-learning project where kids dig a garden or build a bird house. We are helping them think about longer-lasting solutions by affecting policy and learning about the governance process. \nJoin us and other informal science educators at Riparian Provision Company on Monday\, October 21 from 4 to 8pm to learn about this curriculum and how you can use it with youth at your institution. We’ll engage in hands-on activities and send you home with the materials needed to begin. \nFree dinner and one beverage will be provided for all workshop participants! \nThis workshop is being hosted by the University of Florida’s Thompson Earth Systems Institute. If you have questions about the curriculum\, please email Megan Ennes at megan.ennes@ufl.edu. \nCredit: 3 contact hours toward CEUs or Criteria III for North Carolina’s Environmental Education Certification Program\nUpon completion of the Trek\, you will receive a Certificate of Course Completion that includes the number of contact hours to turn in for CEUs. For those seeking Environmental Education Certification\, you will also receive an EE Form for up to 3 hours of credit. \nRegister here\nThe full workshop fee is due when you register and payment is via credit card. Registration for most Educator Treks is on a first-come\, first-served basis. Treks fill quickly\, so register early! \nNote: We do not want cost to be a barrier for any educator. If the cost of this workshop would prevent your participation\, please reach out to Melissa Dowland.
