SUMMARY:Educator Trek: Backbone of North Carolina
DESCRIPTION:Explore the geology of the North Carolina mountains as we travel along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway from Linville Gorge to Grandfather Mountain. Practice rock and mineral identification with hand samples and at outcrops in the field. Learn about the processes that have shaped our mountains. \nCredit: 20 contact hours toward CEUs or Criteria II/III for North Carolina’s Environmental Education Certification Program \nLodging: The workshop fee covers a two-night stay at the NC Forest Service Mountain Training Facility in Crossnore\, NC. Most rooms will be double occupancy. \nTransportation: Participants can ride with the group from Raleigh departing at 2pm or meet us at the lodging in Crossnore in the early evening. Transportation will be in Museum vans. \nRegistration: This workshop is full. Please join our waiting list and we will notify you as soon as possible if a space opens for you!\nThe full workshop fee is due when you register and payment is via credit card. Registration for most Educator Treks is on a first-come\, first-served basis. Treks fill quickly\, so register early! \nNote: We do not want cost to be a barrier for any educator. DESCRIPTION:Help us celebrate Take a Child Outside Week and the Worldwide Day of Play with FlutterFest\, a family-friendly celebration of our amazing local pollinators! \nDressed in your favorite pollinator costume (bee\, butterfly\, bat\, bird\, etc!)\, get ready to explore\, engage\, and play in nature at activity stations set up around Prairie Ridge! From pollinating like a bee to crafting bat homes to creating hummingbird kites\, you’ll explore pollinators in new ways and dive into the wonderful world of native plants and the amazing critters that pollinate them. In addition to nature-themed fun\, Raleigh Popsicle Company will also have popsicles for sale on site! \nThis is a free program beginning at 9:30am\, with activities spread out between the parking lot\, Outdoor Classroom\, and Nature PlaySpace. Come dressed for the weather in your best pollinator costume and be prepared to take a walk! This program is designed for families with children ages 0 to 10 and includes walking between activities on uneven grass- and gravel-covered paths. \nThis event will serve as a culmination of Take a Child Outside Week\, a North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences initiative to get kids outside and engaging with nature!
